Job Summary: Responsible in the repair and maintenance of heavy duty mechanical equipment. This role is also responsible for inspecting company work and ensuring that it meets all company and industry standards
This is an hourly position. Rate will be determined and discussed at time of hiring. Increases will also be discussed after the 3 month probationary period. Position is based on an 8 hour day, less ½ lunch break.
Key Responsibility Areas:
· Repairs and maintains RPM vehicles and equipment as required.
· Performs minor and major vehicle and equipment inspections and repairs, major repairs must be discussed and approved with immediate supervisor/manager.
· Follows RPM Transportation Services established work procedures and preventative maintenance practices.
· Is always productive and makes good use of working hours.
· Maintains shop tools and equipment in good, safe and clean working order and stores them in tool storage area.
· On shop work orders, records any work performed, all parts used from stock, parts ordered specifically for the job, and the time spent on repairing unit.
· Maintains parts order list with applicable Purchase Order numbers and Unit numbers on all invoices.
· Checks the Equipment List to arrive at the correct dates to perform the regular government inspections. Also, checks mileage and/or dates of previous service or repairs to arrive at dates for regular maintenance checks and repairs.
· Reports any obvious vehicle and equipment deficiencies or misuse to the manager as determined by mechanical inspection.
· Prepares any old units for disposal and removes all company equipment (such as chains, boomers, headache rack, etc.), decals and striping.
· Assists with directing and training other mechanics/apprentices and shop helpers if required.
· Ensures that all trainees perform all duties in a safe effective manner and use proper protective equipment at all times
· Maintains good working relations with RPM drivers and other employees, suppliers and anyone else with whom they are in contact with.
· Ensures the shop is kept clean and neat and any concerns regarding shop safety are corrected.
· Discusses with the Manager any problems regarding the shop, equipment, suppliers, stock or employees on a weekly basis or as needed.
· Obtains prior approval on all purchases and/or outside repairs.
· Submits time sheet to immediate supervisor for approval.
· Submits weekly activity report to manager
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): The employee must possess knowledge and demonstrate the following skills:
· Knowledge of government regulations regarding fleet maintenance
· Knowledge of heavy duty vehicle maintenance and repair
· Must possess valid class one driver’s license
· Must hold a valid Journeyman Ticket good for the province of Alberta
· Manual dexterity required to operate tools and equipment

Education and Experience: a) Formal Education:
· High school diploma or GED required
b) Designation/Certification Required:
· Journeyman Heavy Duty Mechanic License
c) Experience:
· 1 to 2 years’ experience.
