We are presently looking for a
SAFETY OFFICER. KEY PERFORMANCE MEASURES: Responsible for the implementation of all Safety Orientation for all new projects and to monitor on a weekly basis all existing projects within the Prairie Provinces. Written weekly inspections reports. Investigate and complete all accident/incident reports in a timely manner this includes WCB forms. Initiate and review the following on a weekly basis; daily hazardous assessment forms, tool box meetings, joint health and safety committee meetings and open flame permits.

To effectively complete the responsibilities of this position, the candidate must be able to complete the following:
· Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of our company Safety and Loss Prevention Program including Safe Work Practices/Safe Job Procedures and the Site Emergency Response Plan
· Monitor the safety performance of all on-site workers to ensure that all workers on the site work safely
· Encourage and educate employees to take precautions and adhere to safety rules to protect themselves and the equipment they use from damage
· Identify and review various health and safety concerns specific to the work site and ensure construction site activities do not put non-construction site people outside of the site at risk
· Investigate all injuries, accidents and near misses. Identify the causes and advise on any improvement in safety standards that need to be made
· Review accident summary reports and take appropriate action when accident trends are unfavorable
· Ensure safety reports and data are collected and submitted to the corporate Safety Manager and/or the Area Manager as required, including:
a) man-hours worked and safety logistics
b) copies of accident reports and W.C.B. forms (submitted to the our company Safety Administration (Head Office) for forwarding to the W.C.B.)
c) description of any unsafe conditions discovered and steps taken to correct those conditions
d) copy of inspection reports on equipment
e) copy of safety inspection checklists or visit summary reports; and
f) copy of audit reports and actions taken
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and enforce OH&S legislation and codes of practice
· Provide internal or arrange external safety training to employees
· Administer the WHMIS training program
· Ensure MSDS of all controlled products on site are up-to-date and available to the workers at all times
· Act as a liaison with the government, WCB, ambulance services and hospitals, management, subcontractors and workers regarding aspects of health and safety on and off the job
· Ensure daily risk assessments are being conducted as per company policy
· Re-certify in any courses pertaining to the CSO status that expire every 3 years
· Auditor
· WHMIS Train the Trainer Auditor
· Flag Train the Trainer
· TDG Train the Trainer
o Failure to re-certify results in the suspension of your CSO certification
o Perform one audit each year to maintain valid Auditor status
o Coordinate and conduct the following according to company policy and OH&S legislation
o Site Orientations
o Safety Inspections
o Joint Work Site Health and Safety Meetings
o Weekly Toolbox Safety Meetings
o Audits
§ Update and display safety policies and pertinent information on the company bulletin board
§ Advise on appropriate protective equipment and on the cost of implementing changes
§ Maintain an inventory list of equipment purchased
§ Establishing inspection schedules for all tools, major equipment, lifting devices and mobile equipment to ensure safe operating conditions and compliance with current regulations
§ Assist injured workers in obtaining Modified Duties and administer the return to work policy
§ LEAD BY EXAMPLE
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience in Powerline industry as required
· EMR/Advanced First Aid II (beneficial but not required)
· CSO certification
· NCSO beneficial but not required
· Understanding of transmission, overhead and underground distribution, bonding & grounding, highvoltage and EPBG
· Must be up to date with legal and technological developments
· Advanced computer skills with experience using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
· Have good communication and negotiating skills, tack and diplomacy to ensure the implementation of OH&S legislation and company policies
· Have a good level of physical fitness and stamina, be able to cope under pressure
· Must have the ability to keep confidential information.
· Must have currentAlbertadriving license.
